Honda HR-V: SRS System Description - Driver's Seat Position Sensor

The driver's seat position sensor is mounted to the driver's seat rail. When the driver's seat is moved to the full-forward position, a metal part of the seat track interrupts the sensor signal. This change in signal is then sent to the SRS unit for processing. If a frontal airbag deployment becomes necessary, the driver's airbag will deploy at the slowest rate, regardless of impact severity. With the seat moved further back, the SRS unit commands the appropriate deployment force based on impact severity.

SRS SYSTEM DESCRIPTION - DRIVER'S AND FRONT PASSENGER'S AIRBAG (KA/KC)

Airbag

The driver's airbag is located in the center of the steering wheel. The front passenger's airbag is located in the dashboard on the front passenger's side.

Dual Inflators

The airbag modules adopt dual inflators for the driver's and the front passenger's airbag. The dual inflators increase airbag effectiveness by properly adjusting the timing when the two inflators are to be ignited (together or sequentially) referring to the collision speed or collision impact.

SRS SYSTEM DESCRIPTION - FRONT PASSENGER'S AIRBAG ON/OFF SWITCH

The front passenger's airbag ON/OFF switch is located on the side lid at the passenger's seat. Inserting the ignition key to the switch turns the airbag system for the front passenger seat ON and OFF. Turn the front passenger's airbag OFF to avoid the front passenger's airbag bashing the child seat when the child seat is placed rear facing out of necessity.

SRS SYSTEM DESCRIPTION - FRONT PASSENGER'S SEAT SITTING SWITCH

The front passenger's seat sitting switch is located in the front passenger's seat cushion, and turns on when there is a load on the front passenger's seat. The SRS unit monitors the state of the front passenger's seat sitting switch and judges the front passenger's seat is occupied when the switch is on. The SRS unit turns on the front seat belt reminder indicator when the front passenger's seat sitting switch is on, even if the front seat belt is not buckled.

SRS SYSTEM DESCRIPTION - FRONT PASSENGER'S WEIGHT SENSOR UNIT

The front passenger's weight is detected by a sensor and this information is sent to the SRS unit via the front passenger's weight sensor unit. If the weight on the front passenger's seat is approximately 30 kg (66 lbs) or less, the weight sensor unit sends a signal to the SRS unit, which controls the front passenger's airbag to prevent deploying it; the front passenger's airbag cutoff indicator turns on and informs the occupant that the front passenger's airbag will not deploy in the event of a collision.
