Honda HR-V: Back-Up Light Switch Test (M/T)

Test

Back-Up Light Side

1. Air Cleaner - Remove

2. Back-Up Light Switch - Test

  1. Disconnect the connector (A).

  1. Check for continuity between back-up light switch 4P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 4. There should be continuity only when the shift lever is in reverse.
    • If the test result is OK, go to step 5.
    • If the test result is not OK, go to step 3.

  1. Remove the backup light switch (A)
  2. Check for continuity between back-up light switch 4P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 4. There should be continuity when the switch end (B) is pressed, and no continuity when the switch end is released.
    • If the test result is OK, check the reverse shift mechanism in the transmission.
    • If the test result is not OK, replace the back-up light switch.

  1. Clean any dirt and oil from the sealing surface of the back-up light switch and the transmission housing
  2. Apply liquid gasket (P/N 08C70- K0334M) to the threads of the back-up light switch (A). Install the back-up light switch within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket.

    NOTE: If too much time has passed after applying the liquid gasket, remove the old liquid gasket and residue, then reapply new liquid gasket.

  1. Connect the connector (A).

  1. Disconnect the connector (A).

  1. Check for resistance value between back-up light switch 4P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 3. There should be resistance value only when the shift lever is in reverse.

Specification: Resistance Value: 750 Ω

  • If the test result is OK, go to step 6.
  • If the test result is not OK, go to step 3.

  1. Remove the backup light switch (A)
  2. Check for resistance value between back-up light switch 4P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 3.

    There should be continuity when the switch end (B) is pressed, and no resistance value when the switch end is released.

Specification  Resistance Value: 750 Ω

  • If the test result is OK, check the reverse shift mechanism in the transmission.
  • If the test result is not OK, replace the back-up light switch.
