Diagnosis Test Mode
A - Initial Communication and DTC Checks.
1. Problem verification:
- The DTCs with the HDS.
Clear DTCs
- Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode and then the ON mode.
- Wait for at least 6 seconds.
- Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B1002 indicated?
YES
Faulty MICU; replace the under-dash fuse/relay box.
NO
Intermittent failure, the MICU is OK at this time.

NOTE :

Diagnosis Test Mode A -
Initial Communication and DTC Checks.
- This DTC is indicated when a MICU update is not completed properly.
- Before update the MICU, make sure the 12 volt battery in the vehicle is
fully charged, and connect a
jumper 12 volt battery (not a battery charger) to maintain system voltage.
- Never turn the vehicle to the ACCESSORY mode or OFF (LOCK) mode, during
the reprogramming. If
there is a problem with the reprogramming, turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
1. Problem verification:
- Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

- Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode and then the ON mode.
- Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B1003 indicated?
YES
Update the MICU.
NO
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

Check the vehicle 12 volt battery condition first.
This is not the same condition as when driving off-road (or on a fire or
logging road).
This condition is caused by a loss of map matching from a bad sensor
input. Check for aftermarket or other objects that can block the GPS signal.
Removal
NOTE:
Do not allow dust, dirt, or other foreign materials to enter the
steering gearbox.
Refer to Steering Gearbox Disassembly and Reassembly as needed during
this procedure.
1. Steering Gearbox - Remove
2. Tie-Rod End - Remove
3. Rack End Boot - Remove
Remove the boot band (A)
