Replacement
NOTE: Refer to the Exploded View as needed during the following procedures
1. Vehicle - Lift
2. Front Wheel - Remove
3. Front Brake Caliper - Remove
4. Driveshaft Spindle Nut - Remove
- Pry up the stake (A) on the spindle nut (B)
- Remove the spindle nut.
5. Front Brake Disc - Remove
6. Hub for Damage and Cracks - Check
7. Front Wheel Speed Sensor - Remove
8. Tie-Rod End Ball Joint - Disconnect
- Remove the cotter pin (A).
- Remove the nut (B).
- Disconnect the tie-rod end ball joint from the knuckle using the ball
joint thread protector and the ball joint remover.
NOTE: Be
careful not to damage the ball joint boot when installing the ball joint
remover.
9. Lower Arm Ball Joint - Disconnect
- Remove the lock pin (A) from the lower arm ball joint, then remove the
castle nut (B).
- Disconnect the lower arm ball joint from the knuckle using the ball
joint thread protector and the ball joint remover.
NOTE: Be
careful not to damage the ball joint boot when installing the ball joint
remover.
10.Knuckle/Hub Assembly - Remove
- Remove the damper pinch bolts (A) and the flange nuts (B).
NOTE : During
installation, install the damper pinch bolts to the same direction as
removal
- Pull the knuckle (C) outward, and separate the outboard joint (D) from
the front hub using a soft face hammer outward, then remove the
knuckle/hub.
NOTE : Do not pull the driveshaft end outward. The inner driveshaft inboard
joint may come apart.
11.Hub - Remove
- Separate the hub (A) from the knuckle (B) using the bearing driver
attachment, pilot, driver handle and a hydraulic press. Hold the knuckle
with the attachment (C) of the hydraulic press or equivalent tool.
NOTE:
- Be careful not to damage or deform the splash guard (D).
- Hold onto the hub to keep it from falling when pressed clear.
- Press out the wheel bearing inner race (A) of the hub (B) using the
bearing driver attachment, pilot, driver handle, a commercially
available bearing separator (C), and a hydraulic press.
12.Splash Guard and Snap Ring - Remove
- Remove the splash guard (A)
- Remove the snap ring (B).
13.Bearing - Remove
- Press the wheel bearing (A) out of the knuckle (B) using the bearing
driver attachment, the driver handle, and a hydraulic
press.
14.Bearing - Install
- Wash the knuckle and the hub thoroughly in high flash point solvent
before reassembly
- Press a new wheel bearing (A) into the knuckle (B) using the attachment,
the driver handle, the oil seal driver attachment, the support
base, and a hydraulic press.
NOTE :
- Install the wheel bearing with the wheel speed sensor magnetic
encoder (C) (brown color) toward the inside of the knuckle.
- Remove any oil, grease, dust, metal debris, and other foreign
material from the encoder surface.
- Keep any magnetic tools away from the encoder surface.
- Keep the wheel bearing and magnetic encoder away from any magnetic
field.
- The encoder can be damaged or erased.
- Be careful not to damage the encoder surface when you insert the
wheel bearing.
15.Splash Guard and Snap Ring - Install
- Install a new snap ring (A)
- Install the splash guard (B).
16.Hub - Install
- Install the hub (A) onto the knuckle (B) using the bearing driver
attachment, the driver handle, the support base, and a hydraulic
press.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the splash guard (C).
17.Knuckle/Hub Assembly - Install

- Apply about 3 g (0.11 oz) of molybdenum grease to the contact area (A)
of the outboard joint and the front wheel bearing
- Install the knuckle/hub (B)
- Install the new damper pinch bolts (C) and the new flange nuts (D).
NOTE : During installation, install the damper pinch bolts to the same
direction as removal.
18.Lower Arm Ball Joint - Connect

- Connect the lower arm ball joint
- Install a new castle nut (A).
NOTE : Torque the castle nut to the lower torque specification, then tighten
it only far enough to align the slot with the ball joint pin hole. Do
not align the castle nut by loosening it
- Install the lock pin (B) as shown.
19.Tie-Rod End Ball Joint - Connect

- Connect the tie-rod end ball joint
- Install the nut (A)
- Install a new cotter pin (B) as shown.
20.Front Wheel Speed Sensor - Install

22.Driveshaft Spindle Nut - Install

- Apply a small amount of engine oil to the seating surface of a new
spindle nut (A)
- Install the spindle nut
- Use a drift to stake the spindle nut shoulder (B) against the
driveshaft.

25.Wheel Alignment - Check

Remove the flange bolt
Removal
1. Vehicle - Lift
2. Front Wheels - Remove
3. Front Splash Shield - Remove
4. Stabilizer Link - Disconnect
Disconnect both sides of the stabilizer link from the stabilizer bar.
5. Stabilize
SEE MORE:
1. DTC check.
Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Are there DTCs indicated?
YES
Go to indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
NO
Go to step 2.
2. Gauge control module operation check.
Do the gauge control module self-diagnostic function.
Is the gauge control module OK?
YES
NOTE:
Check the vehicle 12 volt battery condition first.
This navigation DTC sets when a problem with the internal DRAM is
detected (the DA Unit icon is red in
the System Links).
Before you troubleshoot, make sure to follow the General Troubleshooting
Information.
