Honda HR-V: Front Passenger's Airbag Removal and Installation

Removal

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations - Refer to: SRS Component Location Index (KA/KC), or SRS Component Location Index (KA/KC) and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.

NOTE: If replacing the front passenger's airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.

Removal Before the Front Passenger's Airbag Deployment

1. 12 Volt Battery Terminal - Disconnect

NOTE: Wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

2. Glove Box - Remove

3. Blower Unit - Remove

4. Front Passenger's Airbag - Remove

Supplemental Restraint System - Service Information

  1. Disconnect the connector (A), then remove the clip (B)
  2. Remove the mounting bolt (C).

  1. Remove the duct (A).

  1. Remove the bolts (A)
  2. Remove the hooks (B) from the front passenger's airbag housing holes (C) of the dashboard.

    NOTE:

    • When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape to prevent damage.
    • Take care not to damage the front passenger's airbag housing holes of the dashboard.
    • Take care not to damage the front passenger's airbag.
  3. Remove the other hooks (D) from the front passenger's airbag housing holes (E) of the dashboard, then remove the front passenger's airbag (F) from the dashboard.

5. 12 Volt Battery Terminal - Disconnect

NOTE: Wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

6. Glove Box - Remove

7. Front Passenger's Airbag Inflator Connector - Disconnect

  1. Disconnect the connector (A), then remove the clip (B)
  2. Remove the mounting bolt (C).

8. Front Passenger's Airbag/Dashboard - Remove

Remove the dashboard (A) along with the front passenger's airbag (B).

Installation

Installation Before the Front Passenger's Airbag Deployment

1. Front Passenger's Airbag - Install

Supplemental Restraint System - Service Information

  1. Insert the hooks (A) into the front passenger's airbag housing holes of the dashboard.

    NOTE:

    • Make sure there are no objects between the airbag and the dashboard.
    • Make sure the airbag is fully seated, and make sure the dashboard is not deformed or damaged after the airbag is in place.
    • Make sure the hooks are set properly.
  2. Insert the other hooks (B) into the front passenger's airbag housing holes of the dashboard
  3. Tighten the new bolts (C).

  1. Install the duct (A).

  1. Tighten the new mounting bolt (A)
  2. Install the clip (B), then connect the connector (C).

2. SRS Operation - Confirm

  1. Do the 12 volt battery terminal reconnection procedure, turn the vehicle to the ON mode, and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.

Supplemental Restraint System - Service Information

  1. Insert the hooks (A) into the front passenger's airbag housing holes of the dashboard.

    NOTE:

    • Make sure there are no objects between the airbag and the dashboard.
    • Make sure the airbag is fully seated, and make sure the dashboard is not deformed or damaged after the airbag is in place.
    • Make sure the hooks are set properly.
  2. Insert the other hooks (B) into the front passenger's airbag housing holes of the dashboard
  3. Tighten the new bolts (C).

6. Front Passenger's Airbag/Dashboard - Install

Install the dashboard (A) along with the front passenger's airbag (B).

7. Front Passenger's Airbag Inflator Connector - Connect

  1. Tighten the new mounting bolt (A)
  2. Install the clip (B), then connect the connector (C).

8. SRS Operation - Confirm
